TWIN CITY FASHION WEEK TO DEBUT WITH WEEKEND SHOWS THIS APRIL
The couture event will showcase designers and local boutiques and plans to give back to the city, too.
WINSTON SALEM, NC – April 19-20th, 2019
Twin City Fashion Week will debut their inaugural show, this spring, on April 19th and 20that the Millennium Center in downtown Winston Salem. Embracing the region’s textile spirit, the show’s creator hopes that the annual event will help refresh the local industry and elicit a new pride in the Twin City’s fashionable future.
The high-end runway show will employ the area’s biggest models, make-up artists, hair experts, designers, and more. Sponsored by Flow Jaguar Land Rover of Greensboro and Restoration Med Spa, Friday night’s show will feature original designs by emerging designers, while Saturday night’s show will highlight local boutiques and national brands.
The fashion show will be as much a high-fashion runway show as it will be a celebration of the city’s longstanding craft. That’s because, it was extremely important to founder, DJ Hargrave, that he created a show that captures, celebrates, and honors the creativity and diversity of the Twin City, while also giving back to it.
A portion of the show’s proceeds will benefit Reynolda House and Hargrave hopes that the relationship between high-fashion and art is one that will support one another in The City of Arts & Innovation for many years to come. “This will be the type of show that is not just looking to celebrate fashion, but is a movement that will bring the community together and change the face of the city,” Hargrave says.
To help with his mission, Hargrave, who was born and raised in Winston Salem, has recruited local artists and entrepreneurs who share his passion for propelling the community forward in the name of art and innovation.
Among them, is Millennium Center owner, Greg Carlyle, a retired hair stylist who has styled hair for major runway stars like Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford. His venue on West 5th Street will help Hargrave put TCFW right in the heart of the city.
Also on board with TCFW’s vision is Aeracura Salon, whose lead stylist, Acacio, has styled for designers, like Chanel, during London and Paris fashion weeks and was listed as one of the 100 Most Influential Hairdressers in the World in 2010.
They are just two of a fashion-minded troupe that Hargrave has assembled and he says that everyone he has encountered throughout the production of Twin City Fashion Week has been overwhelmingly supportive. When asked why he thought the city was so ready to embrace this concept, Hargrave says that perhaps it’s because the fashion show will be about more than just hair and clothes.
“This fashion week is about giving back to the community, providing opportunities for our citizens, and embracing diversity by making any and everyone feel welcome in the Twin City,” Hargrave says.
There’s still plenty of time to get tickets to the event. And early-bird discounts are available with the code “TCFW.” For more information on the shows, go to www.twincityfashionweek.com
